Out of Home Advertising’s main goal is to create brand awareness while consumers are out and about. If you’re driving across town, you might see a billboard that reminds you that you need new shoes or to sign up for an event that you want to participate in.

Now with the advance of technology, outdoor advertising can create an interactive experience, with twice the brand retention.

A recent example in AdWeek, showed a Dominos billboard that promotes the pizza chain’s 555 deal. But instead of just telling the audience, “Hey! We have pizzas for five bucks!” The billboard was connected to an app that the user can interact with on their smart phone.

Once you’ve opened the app, you point your phone at the outdoor posters and billboards and then your smartphone creates an real experience allowing you to order your pizza, visit their Facebook page and more.

This billboard does two things; first, it increases immediate sales because it is playing on the fact that hungry people purchase food on impulse. Secondly, Domino’s is increasing the amount of people who order online, which is convenient for the consumer and easily trackable for the company.

This is just one example of how you can achieve this. You can do the same with your building banners, retail signage and even fleet graphics. 2012 predictions for advertising show that companies will be getting back to basics by connecting with consumers in a more intimate and interactive way, while tapping into technology for the social aspect.
